Marble

Marble

Marble is formed when limestone softens (due to heat and pressure), then re-crystallizes. The metamorphosis of limestone to marble results in a highly compact, crystalline structure with uniform grain and hardness. Marble's characteristic luster is in evidence throughout all its varied colors and designs. This wide variety of color and pattern is a result of minerals, present in minor amounts, during the formation process.

Marble is not man-made and, like any other natural stone, can be inconsistent. This is an accepted aspect of its attractiveness. Historically used in sculpture and architecture, marble is a cultural symbol of tradition and refined taste. In addition to its beauty, marble is one of the most practical building materials, due to its durability. Marble adds elegance to the modern home or business as flooring, counters, walls, fireplace facings and hearths.
