Limestone
Limestone is a biogenic (made up of fragments of the hard parts of marine animals and plants), sedimentary rock. Sedimentary rocks are found at or near the earth's surface and comprise only about 8% of the earth's crust. Limestone is tight-grained and more porous than marble, is relatively soft, but weathers well.
Being widely available, neutral in color, and easy to work with, limestone is commonly used in building for interior and exterior walls and floors. A rough form of limestone was used in ancient times to build the pyramids, and has been traditionally used in commercial buildings like train stations and banks. Limestone is gaining popularity as a building material in modern times because of its beauty and durability. Use of limestone as countertops is possible, but generally limited as other materials such as granite, marble and porcelain are more durable.
