Granite

Granite

From the Latin word granum, a grain, granite is a hard, crystalline, igneous or metamorphic rock that comes in a variety of colors and textures. The most abundant rock in the earth's crust, granite is formed as magma, under conditions of intense heat and pressure. The visible grain is a distinct characteristic of the stone.

Granite, a dense-grained, hard natural stone, is more uniform than marble, travertine, onyx or slate, and highly resistant to damage and wear. Considerably less porous than most marble, granite can be up to ten times harder. These qualities make granite an excellent choice for either floors or counters.

Granite is available in a broad spectrum of colors, generally highly polished, and is suitable for a variety of applications, both residential and commercial.
